Pangbourne wins Berkshire Cup
Girls’ Hockey continues to go from strength to strength with the 1st XI capturing the prestigious Berkshire Cup Championship title.
This is the second time Pangbourne have won this most prestigious hockey tournament.
Pringle Trophy Success
After 15 years of coming close to touching but not quite lifting the trophy, this year the Pangbourne team won the competition by an outrageous 33 point clearance ahead of the team taking second place.
The prestigious Pringle Competition is keenly contested by the 18 schools who are privileged to have a Royal Marine Detachment. In terms of the standards expected, it is the ‘Blue Riband’ of CCF competitions.
New Girls’ Boarding House
Pangbourne College has responded to the increase in the demand for places for girls by commissioning the construction of a new state-of-the-art boarding facility for girls, opening September 2007.
Illawarra, as the new house is to be called, will accommodate 60 girls predominantly in single and double bedrooms. St George, the existing girls’ house will also be refurbished over the summer.
Charity Schools’ Concert 2007
Over £3000 was raised at the inaugural Charity Schools’ Concert organised and hosted by the College.
Pupils from Cheam School, Cranford House, The Dragon School and Moulsford Prep together with our own students provided an excellent programme of music which included classical, swing and jazz pieces.
ITV presenter Alastair Stewart filled the gaps between acts with entertaining repartee and the evening was brought to a powerful close when all participating musicians took to the floor for Handel’s Zadok the Priest.
The Children’s Trust and the Falkland Islands Memorial Chapel Trust will share the proceeds raised by the concert.
Achievements in Music
Congratulations to two of our musicians: Georgie Metcalfe, who was awarded 3rd Prize in the Reading Symphony Orchestra, Young Musician of the Year competition.
And, Claire Tiley who has been awarded a Performance Diploma by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. She is now Claire Tiley Dip. ABRSM.
Polo – Pangbourne Moves up a Division
After just 2 ½ years of ‘engagement’, Pangbourne is already positioned as one of the top 13 polo playing schools in the country.
Young players of the future to watch out for include, Rupert Lewis who was recently awarded ‘Most Promising Player’ at the SUPA Senior Tournament held at Longdole Polo Club, and rising star, Tom Small. Tom has already visited Argentina, having been selected to play for the U14 Young England Polo Team at the Tolo Polo International Tournament for Juniors.
